I wrote this song in 2011. It was one of those times where both music and lyrics were written and recorded all at once, with no planning. The version here is a second demo, recorded (I do believe) in the winter of 2014 in a makeshift studio I had set up in the basement of longtime comrade Jason Crawford (of Higher Hands). For the most part, I kept all the music the same as the original version, just adding in some synth ideas and writing lyrics for a second chorus. I played the track for a few friends afterwards but never released the recording, always thinking that I'd take the song to a real studio and record a real string arrangement, work on the lyrics more and do a better vocal take, fix the guitar tones, etc. Of course, none of that ever happened. It never really found its way into my set either; it's been played live only once or twice, both times at 49 West.
The song resurfaced in the spring of 2017 when my wife asked if I could make an instrumental version of the track for choreography she was working on. While making the instrumental, I spent some time with the mix and thought again about re-recording the song, but it ended up back on the shelf again gathering dust.
Then, it finally occurred to me that there's nothing preventing me from releasing the recordings (like this one) that I've been stockpiling over the past 6-7 years. There are a number of things i'd change about this song, but then it would likely never see the light of day. So instead, here it is.
